Avista Corporation, and its subsidiaries, provide electric and natural gas services. The company operates in two segments, Avista Utilities and Alaska Electric Light and Power Company.

Avista Utilities provides gas and electricity throughout parts of Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Montana.

Alaska Electric Light and Power Company provides electric services in Juneau, Alaska.

Avista Corporation dates back to 1889, when the company was originally named the Washington Water Power Company. And, the company has consistently raised its dividend every year for the past 22 years.

American Water Works Company ($AWK) Raises Dividend By 8%

Water utilities are known for their stable and reliable dividend income.

In fact, the oldest dividend stock in America - The York Water Company with 208 years of uninterrupted payments - is a water utility. And, the company with the longest dividend growth streak - American States Water Company with 70+ years of annual dividend hikes - is also a water utility provider.

American Water Works Company, Inc. doesn’t have this same track record.

But, it is a business that dates back to the 1800’s. And, American Water Works Company has an inflation-beating 5-year compound annual dividend growth rate of 8.88%.

American Water Works Company operates approximately 80 surface water treatment plants; 520 groundwater treatment plants; 190 wastewater treatment plants; 1,200 groundwater wells; 1,800 water and wastewater pumping stations; 1,100 treated water storage facilities; and 75 dams.

The company is active in 14 states and serves approximately 3.5 million customers.

Here’s a utility firm that and gets no Wall Street attention.

NorthWestern Energy Group serves extremely rural and sparsely populated states. The company provides electricity and natural gas to 787,000 customers in Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska.
