Here's What's New In The World Of Investing...

The Daily Dividend 5/2/25

"Sell in May and Go Away.”

Historically speaking, and I pulled this data from my copy of Stock Trader's Almanac, the four worst months for the Dow Jones Industrial Average are: May, August, June, and September.

This data goes back to 1950.

These four months are sorted best (or maybe “least bad” would be more appropriate) to worst. May typically sees the smallest drawdown while September witnesses the biggest loses. Bad news if you’re trading, but potentially a good thing for buy-and-hold investors looking for a discount.

Not a lot of stock market news today, but here are a few interesting events…

Chevron Corporation ($CVX) Earnings Presentation

Oil giant Chevron just released their Q1 report. The company noted that worldwide oil production has remained flat since last year.

“Despite changing market conditions, our resilient portfolio, strong balance sheet, and consistent focus on capital and cost discipline position us to deliver industry-leading free cash flow growth by 2026,” said Chevron CEO Mike Wirth.

Chevron Corporation also declared a $1.71/share quarterly dividend.

  • Ex-dividend date: 5/19/2025

  • Payout date: 6/10/2025

  • Forward starting dividend yield: 5.02%

Black Hills Corporation ($BKH) Declares $0.676 Dividend

One of the lesser-known Dividend Kings, Black Hills Corporation has consistently raised its payouts for more than 50 years. The company recently announced its June dividend.

  • Ex-dividend date: 5/16/2025

  • Payout date: 6/1/2025

  • Forward starting dividend yield: 4.45%

Essential Utilities, Inc. ($WTRG) Declares $0.3255 Dividend

Here’s something you don’t see every day, a company that declares its quarterly dividend three months in advance. Utility provider Essential Utilities declared its June dividend all the way back in February. So while this might not be a “new” news item, it’s one so old that many investors may have already forgotten about it.

  • Ex-dividend date: 5/13/2025

  • Payout date: 6/2/2025

  • Forward starting dividend yield: 3.20%
